VISUAL ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE, July-Oct

Katy Pinke is a multidisciplinary artist based in New York. Her work spans painting, sculpture, animation, installation, puppetry, and video, as well as parallel practices as a singer-songwriter and theatremaker. Exhibitions include Kate Oh Gallery, Heroes Gallery, Pablo’s Birthday Gallery, and ABC No Rio; original performance work includes Center for Performance Research (Brooklyn); Tate Xchange at Tate Modern (London); Tsinghua University (Beijing); Dixon Place, NY; and Summerhall at Edinburgh Fringe. She has acted in performance pieces at the Royal Academy of Arts; ARCO Madrid; Frieze London; The Ryder Gallery;The Segal Center (Prelude Festival) and in films screened at Moscow MOMA, Frieze London, and Anthology Film Archives. Pinke hosts a nomadic community art event called ‘Foolishly Use the Force and Ride the Chariot.’ BA Princeton University, MFA Rose Bruford College (London).

Katy’s residency focuses on the canvas as a landing place for the unconscious. In interaction with the natural and historically layered setting of Governors Island (what she calls its “dream layers”) and the intertextual weave of Glass Clouds’ musical repertoire, Pinke is spending her time here deepening her dream language—a repeating series of figural and impressionistic symbols drawn from myth, archetypal apparition, and somatically derived impulses "turned inside out." Each of the paintings and sculptures Pinke finishes during this residency will contribute to the character design of Louie: an animated surrealist musical film she is developing as a parallel work.

VISUAL ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE, Aug-Oct

Lara Lewison is a multidisciplinary artist is a violinist, painter, and creative coder living in Brooklyn. She graduated with a B.A. in Music from Columbia University, where she was the 2020 class recipient of the Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts, awarded based on her combined portfolio of music, painting, and technical art. She is a member of Symphony in C and has participated in orchestral festivals such as Tanglewood Music Center and Lucerne Festival Academy. Lara often performs as a solo Bollywood electric violinist at South Asian events across the country. Currently, she’s working on sound and music for an independent video game.

During the residency, Lara is working on a series of wildlife scenes from parks in East Africa, depicting social behaviors and environments of birds, hippos, and elephants. Lara’s previous works have been primarily abstract paintings, improvisations on organic and natural shapes with vibrant colors. Recently, she has returned to figurative paintings to study the natural environments she has visited, reflect on the experiences of witnessing animal behaviors, and bring focus to unique environments that we have a duty to protect.

COMPOSER-IN-RESIDENCE, June-Sept

Tyson Gholston Davis is an American composer who is frequently commissioned by organizations such as the Kennedy Center, Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, and The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. His series "Studies on Helen Frankenthaler," inspired by the artist’s paintings, has been performed by the Juilliard Quartet. Davis’s ...Expansions of Light, written for Jonathan Biss, was praised by Biss in The Boston Globe for its intentionality and profound meaning. Major works include As Juniper Storms, an orchestral piece for conductor Cristian Măcelaru and the Cabrillo Festival, and a song cycle for soprano Ariadne Greif and Cornell University. In 2019, Tyson was a composer apprentice with the National Youth Orchestra, where his work Delicate Tension premiered in Berlin conducted by Antonio Pappano. Recently, he won the Copland House Residency Award. He holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Juilliard.

During his residency, Tyson is writing a new work for voice and violin on poetry of E.E. Cummings, to be premiered by Glass Clouds Ensemble in the fall.

COMPOSER-IN-RESIDENCE, May-July

Puerto Rican composer Dr. Iván Enrique Rodríguez (b. 1990) has been hailed by the San Francisco Classical Voice, Boston Classical Review, and New York Concert Review as “fiery,” “gripping,” and a “gifted colorist” with exceptional dramatic power. His music has been performed internationally at venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Reykjavík’s Harpa. Winner of the 2019 ASCAP Leonard Bernstein Award and 2023 Rudolf Nissim Prize, Rodríguez was named one of Musical America Worldwide’s Top Professionals of the Year. He’s served as composer-in-residence at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music and at Sweden’s Lövstabruks Kammarmusikfestival. Named in 2018 a Puerto Rican Heritage Ernesto Malave Scholar of the Arts by Comité Noviembre in N.Y.C., Rodríguez’s works often center social justice and activism, having in their inner spirit his Puerto Rican musical heritage. Rodríguez earned his DMA from The Juilliard School under Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Melinda Wagner.

During his residency, Iván is writing a new work, “Another Season” for soprano and string quartet, in collaboration with poets from the NYC Climate Writers Collective on Governors Island. The 10-minute piece, which explores climate change and the relationship between humans and the natural world, will be premiered by the Glass Clouds Ensemble on our Aug 1st program, “Wreathed in Blossom.”

VISUAL ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE, June-July

Clara Curbera is an artist based in Ridgewood, Queens, NY. She received her bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from Wesleyan University in 2020. Her solo show Apple of Your Eye debuted at BAU Gallery in Beacon, NY in 2023, and was featured in the Columbia Journal. Clara has shown her work in group exhibitions, including Matter Matters at Bas Stone (2025), Fresh Faces at Abigail Ogilvy Gallery (2020), and in artist-run spaces in Brooklyn. In May 2025, she became the first visual artist-in-residence to attend Avaloch Farm Music Institute, in collaboration with Glass Clouds Ensemble. She will begin her MFA in painting at School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the fall.
