Sustainable Spaces I: Beyond Organic Design

A concert of world premieres by Lauren Conroy, Filippo Lepre, and Hannah Ishizaki surrounded by Jordan Nassar’s exhibit To Light The Sky. Each premiere explores themes of sustainability inspired by conversation Monica Ibacache of Beyond Organic Design. The 45-minute program interweaves sonic improvisations and commissioned works to promote environmental awareness and deep listening practices.

A native of Chile, Monica Ibacache, founder and executive director of Beyond Organic Design, is a New York City–based community organizer, sustainability educator, and ecological designer.

Beyond Organic Design is an urban sustainability education nonprofit offering hands-on, year-round programming designed to help students understand the real-world value of sustainable ecological design.

A program of canonical works and world premieres by Melissa Dunphy, Forrest Eimold, and Christian Quiñones that explore sensory experiences of home and impacts of environmental destruction, with a an introduction to Earth Matter’s staff and composting initiatives.

Trees Witness Everything | Governors Island, June 3rd, 2023

Chamber music in partnership with local farm and composting org Earth Matter NY. The Glass Clouds Ensemble presents a program of classical music and two world premieres by adventurous composers Seare Farhat and Matthew Shultheis directly inspired by Earth Matter's environmental vision and natural oasis.

A lifelong community organizer and activist, Marisa DeDominicis is the executive director and co-founder of Earth Matter.

Earth Matter NY is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the art, science, and application of composting in New York City. At their farm and compost site on Governors Island, they also grow and donate produce and build community through educational tours, creative public workshops, and apprenticeships.
